Welcome. You have everything we are looking for. We are endeavouring to make our region even better and with you on board we can achieve our ambition. A whole range of enjoyable and satisfying jobs and an exciting region await you. Click on the arrow to see what we can offer.
Things are going well for the Örebro region. Companies are flourishing and the labour market is strong. In recent years the number of companies has grown by 25 per cent. And this has not gone unnoticed. Did you know that in 2014 almost 8,000 people moved here from other parts of the country?
We have more than 13,000 companies in a variety of sectors, all of which are thriving – IT, technology and industry, healthcare, construction, banking and finance and education and research.
Apart from a commercial and industrial sector that is making rapid headway, we have a robust public sector with 26 government authorities and agencies spread throughout Örebro’s 12 municipal areas. These include the Swedish Transport Agency, the National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools, the Prison and Probation Service and Statistics Sweden.
Örebro University is also enjoying success with 17,000 students and 1,200 employees. With a choice of 18 programmes and 700 independent courses, you can become anything from a sommelier to a doctor.
The Örebro region is never far away, with short travelling times between the municipal areas and to other major towns and cities: from a six-minute rail journey between Örebro and Kumla to just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Hallsberg to Stockholm. Did you know that more than 360 journeys are made each day by people living in Stockholm who work in Örebro?
There is one very significant reason why more companies are choosing the Örebro region. Year after year we are named as one of the best logistics locations in the country. This could be considered natural bearing in mind that 70 per cent of the country’s population live within 300 km. This is boosted by a concerted effort throughout the region to show that moving those 300 km is not a problem with the right help and incentives.
Apart from excellent rail and road links, we are proud of our expanding airport. You can fly to Malmö for the day or onward to destinations worldwide. Why not begin your holiday trip from here? Örebro Airport is just 10 minutes from home.
We are immensely proud of the Norra Vättern archipelago, which offers a genuine ocean feeling. With more than 250 islands and skerries you can easily find your very own deserted isle if you have a boat. Our aim is for everyone who wants to live here to find their dream home. To make this aspiration a reality we have made a number of superb building plots available with a view across Lake Vättern. Within a stone’s throw of the water’s edge in the middle of Askersund we are currently building apartments with a distinct townhouse feeling. You are welcome to Sjöängen Cultural Centre, complete with a school, restaurant, art gallery, library and cinema, as well as a multipurpose venue for professional and amateur theatre. Sjöängen is open from early morning until late in the evening, seven days a week.

Several decades may have passed since Gunnar Nordahl was a top goal-scorer and the star in Degerfors IF’s matches at the legendary Stora Valla stadium, but football is still very much alive in the city. The senior team plays in the second-highest division and enjoys regular success in the Swedish Cup. The home crowd is always present in great numbers – and with an even greater presence in terms of passion. We probably have more football fans among the population than any other Swedish town or city.
Located in Värmland, in the most westerly part of the county, you are never far away from enchanted forests and lakes teeming with fish, including Lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden. If you want to experience nature in a pleasurable and yet slightly unusual way, why not invite a friend along and experience travelling on a small hand-powered rail truck all the way to Mosstorp or Gullspång.

From the railway station in Hallsberg you can be in Kumla in six minutes and in Örebro in 15 minutes. You can be in Gothenburg in less than two hours and you will hardly have time to blink in the one hour and 15 minutes it takes to travel to Stockholm.
We hope that you, like us, will feel that you have found your very own heaven on earth and that every time you are away you long to return home. That’s not difficult. We defy you to find anything more beautiful than the lakes in Dovra, anything more relaxing than the lakeside at Tisaren, or anything more inspirational than the architecturally designed Bergööska huset with its art gallery and its paintings and textiles by Karin and Carl Larsson. And you will never need to go hungry as you are not far from the Lithell factory outlet in Sköllersta, where you can choose from row upon row of sausages at tempting prices.

In Hällefors we have the very best when it comes to enjoyment, recreation and a true gourmet experience. If you are interested in excellent food of the very highest quality, it would be difficult to find anything that would surpass what we have on offer.
The range of locally produced, meticulously prepared food provides an enviable choice – from Bredsjö blå goat’s cheese to newly caught game. In the Vattensalong (Water Room) at Loka Brunn you can digest your food at your leisure as you organise yourself mentally for an encounter with the king of the forest on a unique elk safari. Our most famous inventor is of course Alfred Nobel. Even if he is no longer with us, his presence is still very much in evidence at the Nobel Museum, where he speaks proudly about the company that he built up with his own hands at the end of the 19th century. He was and still is a major source of inspiration for many other scientists and engineers who have made their way to Karlskoga. Perhaps you are one of them?
When you move here you will find yourself in the midst of an incredibly innovative, high-tech environment with numerous inventors – as many as 25 per cent of patent applications in the county originate from our town. We work hard but we also enjoy the pleasures of life and we are happy to have a motoring prince visit us on a regular basis. He enjoys the thrill of doing a few laps at the Gälleråsen race track, where for a day you too can become a racing driver.

If you make your way down to the rivers and streams in the Rydbergsdal valley you can try your hand at panning for gold with world champions to help you develop the right technique. And any gold you find is yours to keep!
If you want to enjoy the beauty of opera at its very best you can visit Opera at Skäret, where an old sawmill on the shores of Lake Ljusnaren has been transformed into a regular opera venue. We make good use of our former mining areas with a whole host of thrilling activities. Adrenaline seekers from all over the country make their way in droves to Zombie Escape, located in a former mine at Stråssa, where they attempt to survive a zombie attack. If hunting and shooting are more your thing, there is the shooting range at Munkhyttan, with 30 traps and two pheasant towers.
If shooting with a camera is more to your liking, then head for the Stripa mine, where we have preserved a rare piece of history. Time has stood still since the sound of the drills was last heard in 1977. You will discover an industrial setting that reveals everything from untouched machinery to clocking-in cards left beside the time clock.

In 1856, theology student Bernhard A. Kjellmark discovered the red water lily on Fagertärn, a small lake in the heart of the forest. It is still the largest wild flower in Sweden and is among the largest water lilies in Europe.

And if your idea of heaven is to live beside an incredibly beautiful lake, we have amazing building plots for sale. If you are tempted to step up the pace a little you can make your way to Sannahed to experience the thrill of flying gravel and the roar of engines as world-class speedway riders compete. If you have the urge to put your physical skills to the test or to pit your strength and wits against a friend, you can take up the popular challenge of the steps at Kvarntorp. Browse in one of the craft centres before rounding off your visit at the lakeside to savour the delights of our famous NoraGlass ice-cream. We have produced and served freshly made ice cream since 1923 and each summer day brings its own very special flavours.
You will also find our much-talked-about microbrewery Nora Brygghus, where the beer is brewed exactly as it was back in the old days.
